Down with Depression was created so i could pass on something i experience and have taken the time to study at great lengths, now in the hope of simplifying the illness and ways to overcome it.
Depression is an illness that around 10% of the world currently live with and have been diagnosed with. Yearly millions of new sufferers are being diagnosed and a large number of people are silently living with the illness without knowing what they are suffering from.
- As many as three in four cases of depression (up to 75% of cases) are neither recognised nor treated.
- Women are more likely to have been treated for a mental health problem than men (29% compared to 17%). This could be because, when asked, women are more likely to report symptoms of common mental health problems.
- By the year 2020, major depression will be second only to chronic heart disease as an international health burden (this is measured by its cause of death, disability, incapacity to work and the medical resources it uses.)
- There are 30 working days lost due to depression and anxiety for every single day lost to industrial disputes.
Down with depression is created in the hope of changing these figures.
